Shakila is from the community she works for. She knows how the headpiece has to be pinned to last through a long night, how a red lip should sit against a red dress, and how to keep a traditional look from going flat under a photographer's flash. Her reels of Afghan and Pakistani brides have been watched hundreds of thousands of times.
The lounge at Narre Warren South is built for the way these weddings actually run: the bride, her sisters, her mother and the bridesmaids getting ready together on the morning, with Dari and Farsi spoken in the room. Henna night, nikah, the wedding day and the walima can all be booked as one week.
